MIKE
LONG’S 3 DAY PACKAGE:
THE MOST PRODUCTIVE USE OF TITLE V ABSTINENCE EDUCATION GRANTS
There
is no better way to utilize Abstinence Education funds than to
secure Mike Long for a 3 day visit to your area.
DAY
1 Mr. Long provides an in-service training for teachers, health
professionals, youth leaders, etc. The in-service consists of
3 sessions (appr.1 1/2 hrs. each). Typically, 2 sessions take
place in the morning, break for lunch, then complete the training
with session 3 in the early afternoon. “Teachers and youth leaders
come away from my trainings highly motivated to put these new
abstinence teaching strategies to work in the classroom,” Long
said. “They learn for the first time that teaching abstinence
is not telling kids to ‘Just say NO.’ It is teaching teens responsibility,
discipline, and maturity in a fun way in which they’ll listen
ultimately building their character like never before.”
DAY
2 of Mr. Long’s visit consists of 2 assembly programs in area
schools and a Community Awareness Program in the evening. “School
board members, administrators, clergy, community leaders, and
concerned parents are always convinced that this directive educational
strategy is exactly what needs to be taught to teens,” Long said.
“The Community Awareness Program eliminates all the fallacies
and confusion they have about abstinence and is very convincing
to them that this is the way to go.”
DAY
3 consists of more school assemblies for teens. “The beautiful
thing about conducting this 3 day event in an area is teachers
are trained how to effectively teach abstinence in the classroom
and they can’t wait to begin. Administrators are convinced that
this is the way to go. Parents learn these directive educational
techniques. Teens are highly motivated from assemblies. Then teachers
and parents can follow-up using the “Everyone Is NOT Doing It”
series,” Long said. “It is a beautiful way to coordinate a unified
effort between the local organization, school system, parents,
and community. It’s win, win across the board!”
