Reality Check ‘98 Chicago Youth Rally
Over 8,000 School Teens Hear Mike Long Speak On Abstinence
Mike
Long was the first of several speakers at the Reality Check '98
Chicago Youth Rally put on by Project Reality and the Chicago
Public School System Nov. 17, 1998. 8000 Chicago teenagers were
bused in from all over the city. They loudly applauded the abstinence
message at the Univ. of Illinois Pavilion for the 2 hr. presentation.
Former Univ. of NC basketball Coach Dean Smith introduced Long
by way of video tape on 2 gigantic video screens. Long challenged
these teens to make smart, healthy choices in life by teaching
them what it means to be responsible and mature. He was followed
by NBA basketball star AC Green, actress/singer Lakita Garth,
NFL Hall of Famer Mike Singletary, abstinence speaker Pat Socia,
several Chicago Bears football players, rap bands, actors, and
dancers. "We rocked Chicago with a clear and healthy message,"
Long said. "These kids will never forget this as long as they
live. We look forward to doing more of these in other cities across
the country!"
Chicago Public Schools CEO/Superintendant Paul Valas said, "I
want to meet with Mike Long to further discuss ways in which a
solid abstinenence message can be incorporated into the health
curriculum of the Chicago Public schools."
AFRICAN
AMERICAN REACTION: MESSAGE IS APPLAUDED!
Alabama's Booker T. Washington High School Students Give The Abstinence
Education Message A Standing Ovation!
Abstinence
educator and speaker Mike Long delivered a challenging and encouraging
message to 800 African American high school students at Booker
T. Washington High School in Tuskegee, AL this past October. Interrupted
4 times with applause and a standing ovation at the end of his
talk, Long empowered these teens to be completely free of the
negative consequences many face who choose to be sexually active.
"These kids are fed up with the low expectations many place on
them because of their race or family situation," Long said in
a TV interview following the assembly. "Approximately 70% of African
American teens live in single parent homes. Therefore, many educators
believe they will not favorably receive an abstinence until marriage
message. Their response here today proves the contrary."
Long said his approach always promotes the highest standard of
behavior and expectation despite a teens background. "Almost all
teens are capable of making smart, healthy decisions given the
right direction offered on their level," Long said.
